Tooth Extraction

Extractions are done as a way to remove problematic teeth. In some cases, a tooth is too far gone to save it and extraction is the only viable option. For example, if you have been experiencing extreme sensitivity lately or are battling gum disease, tooth removal may be necessary. Extraction may also be needed in cases where a tooth poses a future risk to your health, like a wisdom tooth. We perform extractions safely and comfortably in our office at your convenience.

Why Is A Tooth Extraction Needed

The Tooth Extraction Process

A tooth extraction, also known as tooth removal, is sometimes necessary if it’s not possible to save your tooth through a dental procedure such as root canal therapy.

As part of the extraction process, we will examine X-rays to determine which tooth needs to be removed and if any other teeth are involved. If a tooth extraction is needed, it’s best to remove the tooth as soon as possible to prevent pain and infection negatively affecting your oral health.

We begin the process with sedation or anesthetic used to numb the area and make the procedure comfortable for you. Once this is done, we will work to loosen and remove the tooth. If an impacted tooth needs extraction, we’ll make a small incision through the gums to gain access to the underlying tooth. Once the tooth is removed, we may place stitches on an as-needed basis. We then go over the next steps verbally and send you home with important aftercare instructions to ensure that the area heals correctly.

If you think you might need a tooth removal, call our office today and we can get you in for an appointment as soon as possible. We will also discuss tooth replacement options, such as a dental implant to restore the appearance and function of your mouth.
