Are dental needles really that big and painful?
Realistically, we have different needles for different situations. For the upper, we'll use a smaller one with as thin a gauge as possible. With the numbing gel, you generally shouldn't feel very much.
Is the implant screw actually huge?
The implant, generally, the larger the size, the better. We'll fit the largest implant that we can fit. The more surface area, the more retention, and the better the implant.
Does getting anesthesia always hurt?
With the numbing gel, we try to minimize any discomfort, but getting you numb is very, very important for any dental procedure. If it does pinch a little bit, it's required, but it's also a lot better once we get dental work started. We always want to make sure that you're comfortable.
Can keeping your mouth open the whole time be difficult?
We do offer mouth props, bite blocks, and things that can help. We also have a laser that can help kind of relax the jaw after being open for a long appointment.
Is modern dentistry more comfort focused?
At any point, if you need anything, you just raise your hand. You're in control. If we need to stop or take a break, dentistry should be comfortable and shouldn't be painful.
Does the fact that nothing hurts mean everything is fine?
That doesn't necessarily mean that everything is fine. Cavities don't always hurt. A lot of times, they don't until they reach the nerve. At that point, instead of it being a couple of hundred dollars for a filling, you're looking at more for a root canal and a crown.
