Dental Implants

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is helpful in replacing one or more areas of missing dentition. When a tooth is missing, your only two options in the past were to place a dental bridge or wear a partial denture. Rather than go with an option that could compromise your surrounding teeth, we recommend a dental implant. Implants are made out of titanium and act as both the roots and crown of a natural tooth.

Why are Dental Implants needed?

You might need or want a dental implant because you are missing a tooth. The implant undergoes a process that is known as osseointegration, which means it’ll fuse with the bone over the course of a few months. Not only do implants help to cosmetically improve your smile, they are helpful in improving functionality. Once a restoration is placed over the implant, it’ll be easier for you to eat and chew your favorite foods.

Who Is A Candidate For Dental Implants

Who is a candidate for Dental Implants?

We can examine your mouth and teeth to determine if you might benefit from an implant. Implants rely on solid, healthy bone structure in order to heal properly. If you suffer from bone loss, we will recommend a bone grafting before an implant can be placed. Most patients who need or want implants can safely have the procedure done in our office.

What happens during the Dental Implant procedure?

The procedure begins by administering anesthetic or sedation of your choice. We then insert the titanium post of the implant deep into the bone of the jaw. The implant is given time to heal and you’ll be sent home with important care instructions. Over the next few months, the implant will completely fuse with the underlying bone. Once this happens, you’ll come back into the office and have a dental restoration made just for that area. Your new implant can last for decades without showing any signs of damage or disrepair.
